The tipped minimum wage is the direct cash wage an employer must pay an employee who customarily receives tips, before counting those tips. The federal figure is $2.13 an hour, and tips must bring the total up to the minimum wage. As of October 8, 2026, 16 states list that federal $2.13, 5 list a tipped cash wage equal to their full minimum wage, 2 (Montana, Oregon) require the full minimum wage in cash for tipped employees without listing a single figure, and 3 (Connecticut, Florida, New York) list a range or no single figure.
