How to play
- Find the words from the list in the grid. They can run horizontally, vertically and, depending on the level, diagonally or backwards.
- With a mouse, drag from the first letter to the last. With a finger, tap the first letter and then the last (if the grid fits on the screen you can drag too).
- Keyboard: arrow keys to move, Space to mark the first letter and Space again on the last, Escape to cancel, and H for a hint.
- A hint marks the first letter of a missing word. Word searches solved without hints keep your best time for each level.
- In “Create your own” you type your words and get a word search ready to play, print, download as a PDF or PNG, and share with a link.

How to use it
- Choose a topic and a level, then select “New game”. The words to find appear next to the grid.
- Drag from the first letter of a word to its last letter. On touch screens you can also tap the first letter and then the last one.
- With a keyboard, move with the arrow keys, press Space on the first letter and again on the last one. Escape cancels the selection.
- If you get stuck, ask for a hint: it marks the first letter of a missing word. When you find them all, your time is saved.
- To make your own, switch to “Create your own”, type your words, and select “Create word search”. Then print it, download it as a PDF or PNG, or copy the link.
Frequently asked questions
How can I make a word search with my own words?
Switch to “Create your own”, type one word per line (up to 30), and select “Create word search”. You can choose the size of the grid and which directions the words hide in: horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and backwards. Then print it or download it as a PDF or PNG.
Can I use words with accents or special characters?
Yes. Accents and similar marks are removed in the grid, so an accented e becomes a plain E, while the list keeps the word the way you typed it. Spaces and hyphens are dropped, and anything that is not a letter is rejected with a message that names the word.
How do I print the word search?
Select “Print” under the grid. It prepares an A4 sheet with the title, the grid, and the list of words to check off. If “Include solution sheet” is on, a second sheet is added with the words marked. You can also download the PDF or a PNG image. Choose “Fit to page” in the print dialog if you print on Letter paper.
What is the difference between the levels?
Easy has 8 words in a 10 x 10 grid, horizontal and vertical only. Medium has 12 words in a 15 x 15 grid, with diagonals. Hard has 18 words in a 20 x 20 grid, and they can be written in any direction, including backwards.
Can I share my word search with someone else?
Yes. “Link” copies an address that contains your words and the layout of the grid. Whoever opens it sees exactly the same word search and can play it or print it. Nothing is uploaded to a server: the data travels inside the link itself.
Do all the words always fit?
Almost always. If the grid is too small for that many words or only a few directions are turned on, some words may not fit, and the page tells you which ones. Choose a larger size or turn on more directions and create the word search again.
Word searches to play, make, and print
A word search is a grid full of letters with words hidden in straight lines. This game builds them in your browser, with ready-made topics to play and a mode to make your own with any words you like. It works well for the classroom, a birthday party, or practicing vocabulary.
Levels and topics
- Easy: a 10 x 10 grid with 8 words, horizontal and vertical.
- Medium: 15 x 15 with 12 words, now including diagonals.
- Hard: 20 x 20 with 18 words that can run backwards in any of the eight directions.
The topics include animals, fruits, countries, the human body, colors, jobs, sports, food, and musical instruments. Every word search is generated at random and can be opened again with its link.
Make your own word search
Type one word per line, choose the size of the grid or let it adjust by itself, and decide whether words can run diagonally or backwards. Accents are removed in the grid. The result can be printed on an A4 sheet with a solution page, downloaded as a PDF or PNG, or shared with a link.
Tips for finding the words
- Look for the words with uncommon letters first, such as Q, Z, J, or X.
- On the higher levels, scan the diagonals too and read from right to left.
- If you get stuck, ask for a hint: it marks the first letter of a word you have not found yet.
