Rates change
Each platform updates its commissions, fixed fees, and installment costs. Use the current rate for your plan, published on its site, and confirm the result against your payout statement. How to use it
- Choose the calculation type: simple commission, price for a net amount, tiered commission, or multiple sales.
- Enter the sale amount and the commission rate. If needed, open “Extra fees and product cost” to add a fixed fee, tax on the fees, financing cost, withholding, and the cost of the product.
- Read the net amount you receive along with a breakdown of every fee. Turn on “Compare with another commission” to put two rates side by side.
- Copy the result, download the breakdown as a CSV file (multiple sales), or copy the link to share the calculation.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate the commission on a sale?
Multiply the sale amount by the commission rate and divide by 100. On a $1,000 sale with a 12% commission, the commission is $120 and you keep $880 before any other fees.
What price should I list at to receive a specific net amount?
Use the “Price for a net” mode. Divide the net amount (plus the fixed fee) by one minus the combined percentage fees. To receive $875 with a 12% commission and a $5 fixed fee, you need to list at $1,000.
What is the difference between a tiered commission and a flat one on the whole amount?
With the per-tier option, each rate applies only to the part of the sale that falls inside its tier, like a progressive income tax. With the other option, the tier the sale reaches sets one rate that applies to the entire sale. The calculator handles both.
Is tax charged on the sale or on the commission?
On most platforms, any VAT or GST applies to the fees for the service, not to the price of the product. Here the tax is added on top of the commission, the fixed fee, and the financing cost. Confirm it against your platform’s invoice or statement.
Can I use the rates from eBay, Etsy, Amazon, or other platforms?
Yes, but enter the current rate for your plan. We do not preload rates because they change by category, listing type, and payment method, and an outdated number would lead to errors.
Is the data I enter saved?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Only the last calculation type and currency are remembered, and your values travel in the link only when you copy it yourself.
The formulas behind a commission
- Simple commission: commission = sale × rate ÷ 100. What you receive is the sale minus the commission and any other fees.
- With tax on the fees: total fee = (commission + fixed fee) × (1 + tax ÷ 100).
- Price for a net amount: price = (net + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate ÷ 100).
Example: selling to collect a target net
You want to receive $875 for a product, and the platform charges a 12% commission plus a $5 fixed fee. The price is ($875 + $5) ÷ 0.88 = $1,000. At $1,000 the commission is $120, the fixed fee is $5, and you receive $875.
Tiered commission
With tiers of 3% up to $1,000, 5% up to $3,000, and 8% above that, a $2,500 sale pays $30 on the first tier and $75 on the rest: $105 in total, an effective rate of 4.2%.
With tax on the commission
Many platforms add VAT or a similar tax to their fees. On a $1,000 sale with a 12% commission and a $5 fixed fee, the fee before tax is $125. With 20% tax it becomes $150, so you receive $850 instead of $875.
Per tier or on the total
If a $2,500 sale reaches the 5% tier, there are two ways to apply it. Per tier, each rate is charged only on the part of the sale inside that tier: $105 in total. On the total, the rate of the tier reached applies to the whole sale: $125. Check which one your agreement uses, because here the difference is $20.
Multiple sales, quota, and bonus
Add up the sales for the period to see the total commission and the average. With three sales of $1,000, $1,500, and $800 at 5%, the commission is $3,300 × 5 ÷ 100 = $165. If your plan pays a bonus for beating a quota, enter it to see what you would earn when you reach it.
Tips
- Always compare the effective rate (all fees as a share of the sale), not just the advertised commission.
- Include the cost of installment financing if you offer it: it is often the heaviest fee.
- Add the product cost to see your real profit and margin.
- Check the fees on each platform’s site before you decide: they change often and depend on your plan, category, and payment method.
- Copy the link to repeat the calculation when conditions change. Your data travels only in the link and is not stored on any server.
