Kansas sales tax calculator

The calculator already has Kansas’s 6.5% state rate filled in. Add your local rate to get the combined rate, then enter a price or a total.

Calculation

Pick a state to fill in its state rate, or choose “Other place” and type a rate.

The local rate is the part that cities, counties, and districts add on top of the state rate. It depends on the exact address, so type the one that applies to you.

Formula
total = price × (1 + tax rate ÷ 100)

—

The tax is rounded to the nearest cent. Stores and states differ on whether they round each item or the whole purchase, so a receipt can be off by a cent or two.

An estimate, not tax advice

The state rate comes from the state’s own tax agency, but what you pay depends on the exact address, on what you buy (many states tax food, clothing, or medicine differently or not at all), and on any special districts. Check the final amount on your receipt or with your state’s tax agency. This tool is not financial or tax advice.

If a $500 total already includes the 6.5% state rate, the price before tax is $469.48 and the tax is $30.52. With an example 2% local rate on top (8.5% combined), the same $500 holds a price of $460.83 and $39.17 of tax. Finding your local rate

Food, clothing, medicine, and services can be taxed differently from other goods, so check the tax agency before relying on the result for a large purchase.
