Taking gross receipts tax out of a total in New Mexico

If a $500 total already includes the 4.875% state rate, the price before tax is $476.76 and the tax is $23.24. With an example 2% local rate on top (6.875% combined), the same $500 holds a price of $467.84 and $32.16 of tax. The reverse calculation divides by 1 plus the rate; it does not subtract the percentage.
