FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your photos never leave it, which matters because iPhone photos often carry your location and other personal data.

What happens to the GPS location and other metadata?

Converted photos come out without metadata: they carry no GPS location, date, or phone model. The orientation is applied, so vertical photos look upright.

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?

HEIC compresses photos to about half the size of a JPG at the same quality. The problem is that Windows, many websites, and some programs cannot open it. If you would rather have your iPhone save JPG, go to Settings, Camera, Formats, and choose “Most Compatible”.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Up to 100 per batch, with up to 50 MB each. They are converted one at a time so your device does not run out of memory, and when they finish you can download them all in a single ZIP. There is no daily limit and no sign-up.

Does it work with Live Photos, bursts, and Portrait mode photos?

Yes, but only the main image is converted. A Live Photo does not include its video, and if the file contains several images, we tell you which one was used. HEIF videos are not supported.

Do I lose quality when I go from HEIC to JPG?

At quality 90, the default, the difference is not visible to the naked eye, although the JPG is somewhat larger than the original HEIC. Raise it to 100 if you are going to edit the photo afterward, or lower it to 75 to save space.

What a HEIC file is

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads have used to save photos since iOS 11. It uses HEVC compression, the same as modern videos, so it takes up much less space than a JPG. Because it is a newer format, not every program understands it: Windows needs an extension, many platforms reject the upload, and some printers do not recognize it.

How to open HEIC photos on Windows, Android, or the web

The simplest way is to convert them to JPG, which any device can open. With this tool you do it without installing anything and without uploading your photos: the conversion happens in your browser.

  • JPG: the best choice for sharing, printing, or uploading to forms.
  • PNG: no quality loss, but much larger.
  • WebP: light and modern, ideal for using the photos on a web page.

If you also need them to be smaller, after converting you can run them through the compress image tool.
