Editor options
Images from other sites are requested directly from their servers by your browser. Turn the option off if you don’t want them loaded.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the Editor panel. You can start with the “Example” button or open an .md file, even by dragging it onto the editor.
- Format with the toolbar (heading, bold, lists, links, tables, code) or with the shortcuts Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, and Ctrl+K. The preview updates as you type.
- On a phone, switch between “Editor” and “Preview”. On large screens you see both panels at once, with synced scrolling.
- Download your document as .md or .html, copy the HTML, or use “Print or save as PDF”. If you don’t want it saved in your browser, turn off “Save on this device”.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. The editor and the preview run in your browser. The document is saved only in your device’s local storage, and only while “Save on this device” is on. You can turn it off and use “Clear all” whenever you want.
What Markdown does it support?
CommonMark plus the GitHub extensions (GFM): tables with alignment, task lists, strikethrough, automatic links, and fenced code blocks with a language. Footnotes work too, written as [^1] with the definition [^1]: text. Embedded HTML is allowed, but it is filtered for safety.
Is it safe to paste HTML or text from someone else?
Yes. Before the preview is shown, the HTML is cleaned: scripts, event attributes such as onerror, iframes, embedded styles, and javascript: links are removed. Images from other sites are requested by your browser, and you can turn them off in the options.
How do I save the document as a PDF?
Select “Print or save as PDF” and, in your browser’s print dialog, choose “Save as PDF” as the destination. The document prints with clean styles, without the toolbar or the editor panels.
How do I insert a table?
Select the table button in the toolbar and choose how many columns and rows you want with the mouse or the arrow keys. A Markdown table is inserted, ready to fill in. You only need to type in the cells.
Can I undo a change or recover deleted text?
Yes. Changes made with the formatting toolbar, “Open file”, “Example”, and “Clear all” can be undone with Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) while the cursor is in the editor.
Basic Markdown syntax
# Title,## Subtitle: level 1 and level 2 headings.**bold**,*italic*, and~~strikethrough~~.- itemfor bullets,1. itemfor numbered lists, and- [ ] taskfor checkboxes.[text](https://example.com)for links andfor images.- A code block goes between three backticks, with the language right after the opening ones:
```js.
Tables and footnotes
Tables use vertical bars and a row of hyphens under the header. To align a column, add colons in that row: :---: centers and ---: aligns right. A footnote is written as text[^1] and defined on another line with [^1]: the content.
When Markdown is a good fit
It is ideal for documentation, READMEs, notes, and articles: the file is plain text, it reads well without converting, and it turns into HTML or PDF when you need it. If you plan to publish the HTML on your own site, check the result in the preview and use “Download .html” to get a standalone document.
