How to use it
- Drag in your image, paste it with Ctrl+V, or pick a plain background to start without a photo.
- Type the top and bottom text. It shrinks to fit the width and has a black outline, so it stays readable on any photo.
- Change the layout if you like: classic, with a white caption bar, or two panels. Add more text boxes, arrows, or circles.
- Download a PNG or JPG at the original size, copy the image, or share it straight from your phone.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The meme is built in your browser, on your own device. Your photo never leaves it, and there are no accounts or history stored on any server.
Why are there no famous meme templates?
Because almost all of them use copyrighted images. Here you use your own photo or a plain background (white, black, gray, grid, or gradient), and you can build side-by-side comparisons with the two-panel layout.
What font does classic meme text use?
Anton by default: a condensed, very bold font similar to the classic meme look, in capital letters, white with a black outline. You can switch to other free fonts, change the outline thickness, or add a shadow.
Can I add more than two pieces of text?
Yes. Add as many text boxes as you like, then drag them, change their width, rotate them, or duplicate them. You can also add arrows, circles, and rectangles to point out something in the image.
What size is the downloaded image?
The original size of your image, up to 4096 pixels per side. If it is larger, it is scaled down to that maximum (you are told when it loads). If you upload an animated GIF, only the first frame is used. Choose PNG for lossless quality or JPG with the quality you prefer. There is never a watermark.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Drag with your finger to move, pinch a text box to resize and rotate it, and use the Share button to send the meme straight to your apps.
How to make a good meme
A meme works when the text can be read at a glance. That is why the classic format uses thick, capital letters in white with a black outline: they stand out on both light and dark backgrounds. This generator applies that style by default and shrinks the text if it is long, so it never runs off the image.
Three layouts for different jokes
- Classic: one line at the top and another at the bottom of the photo. Ideal for setup-and-punchline jokes.
- With caption: a white bar above the image with black text, the format you see all over social media.
- 2 panels: two images, side by side or stacked, for comparisons and before-and-after memes.
Tips for a clean result
Use your own images or ones with a free license: it is the safest way to share your meme without copyright trouble. Keep the text short, one idea per box, and leave room in the image for the letters. If you plan to post it on Instagram or TikTok, change the aspect ratio to 4:5 or 9:16 from the Image tab.
Output format: JPG or PNG
If you start from a JPG photo, the generator suggests saving as JPG: the file is about ten times smaller than a PNG and looks the same in a chat or on a social network. Choose PNG when you need transparency or when very crisp text sits on a plain background. With JPG you can adjust the quality and check the file size before you post.
Common problems
- The text runs off the image: turn on “Shrink text to fit inside the box” or make the box wider with the handles.
- The letters are hard to read on the photo: increase the outline thickness or add a semi-transparent background behind the text.
- You want to swap the photo without losing your text: use “Change image”. The text boxes are kept.
- You need it for a specific network: change the aspect ratio to 1:1, 4:5, or 9:16 from the Image tab before downloading.
No watermark and no third-party templates
The meme downloads at the size of your image, with no logos or page text added. We also do not offer famous templates, because those images are usually copyrighted: start with a plain background, a grid, or a gradient, or use your own photos.
