FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many photos can I put in a collage?

Up to 12. Each number of photos has several different layouts: with 4 photos, for example, a 2 × 2 grid, one large photo on top and three below, four columns, and more.

How do I frame each photo inside its cell?

Select the photo and drag it inside its frame. To zoom in, use the “Photo zoom” slider, Ctrl and the mouse wheel, or pinch on your phone. With the keyboard, use the arrow keys to move, plus and minus to zoom, and square brackets to switch between photos.

What aspect ratio and size should I pick for social media?

Square 1:1 or portrait 4:5 for Instagram posts, 9:16 for stories and reels, and 16:9 for video thumbnails. The “Medium” size (2048 px) is enough for most networks; “Large” (3600 px) is better if you are going to print.

Do I lose quality when I make the collage?

No more than necessary. While you edit, you work with smaller copies so everything stays smooth, but when you download, each photo is read again at its original resolution and drawn directly at the final size. If you choose JPG or WEBP, the quality is set with the slider.

Can I make the background transparent?

Yes. Turn on “Transparent background” and download as PNG or WEBP: the space between photos and the rounded corners will be transparent. JPG does not support transparency.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Your photos are processed in your browser and never leave your device. There are no watermarks and no daily limit either.

How to make a collage that looks good

  • Pick the layout to fit your photos: if you have one main photo, use a layout with a large cell; if they all carry the same weight, use a grid.
  • Frame with intent: faces and the main subject should stay inside the cell. Drag and zoom until each photo tells something.
  • Leave some air: a small gap and an even margin look tidy. With a gap of 0, the collage reads as a single image.
  • Choose the background with care: white or black are neutral; a color from your brand or your photos ties everything together.

Formats and sizes

For screens, a JPG at 85 to 92% quality is light and looks good. If you need transparency, choose PNG or WEBP. For printing, use the “Large” size and keep the A4 ratio or whatever your print shop asks for. Afterward you can reduce the file size with our image compressor.

Collage ideas by use

  • Before and after: two cells of the same size, with no gap and the same proportion.
  • A trip or event memory: six to nine photos in a grid, with a thin margin and a white background.
  • Social media posts: choose 1:1 for the square feed, 4:5 for portrait, and 9:16 for stories.
  • Catalog or product sheet: one large cell with the product and several small ones with the details.

Order, framing, and limits

You can load up to 12 photos at once and switch layouts without losing them. To swap two photos, drag them from one cell to another or use the Earlier and Later buttons in the panel, which also work with the keyboard. Each photo can be rotated, mirrored, and zoomed without leaving its cell.

Choosing the output size

Small is fine for chats and social networks; Medium for screens and presentations; Large for printing. When you download, the tool shows you the exact dimensions and the file size. If the file is too heavy, lower the JPG quality or run it through the image compressor.

Privacy

The collage is built in your browser: your photos are not uploaded to any server or stored. When you close the page, they are gone.
