FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you play the balance game?

The ball rolls along a bar that pivots at its center. When you tilt the bar, the ball moves to one side or the other. Your job is to correct with short taps so it never reaches the ends, where it falls off.

How do I score points?

You earn one point for every second the ball stays on the bar. While it is in the marked center zone, your score counts double, so the best approach is to keep it near the middle without standing still.

Why does it get harder?

Over time, nudges push the ball suddenly and the bar’s friction sometimes changes. Each disturbance is a little stronger than the last, so you have to correct early.

Can I use my device’s motion sensor?

Yes, it is optional. Turn on “Tilt with device motion” and allow access when your browser asks. If your device does not support it or you decline, you can keep playing with the keyboard or the buttons.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Hold down one side of the screen or the buttons below to tilt the bar. The page does not scroll while you play.

Is my best score saved?

Yes. When each game ends, your score and your best score are saved in your browser’s local storage, along with a chart of your last games. You can play as many times as you like.

How to keep your balance

The ball sits on a bar that pivots at its center. When the bar tilts, gravity pulls the ball toward the lower side. To keep it up there, tilt the bar the opposite way just enough, then return to level: small, frequent corrections work better than one big, late one.

The center zone and double score

The middle of the bar is striped and labeled “center ×2”. While the ball rolls through that strip, every second is worth two points. That is why it pays to keep the ball near the middle: it is the fastest way to score and it also leaves you room before the ends.

The nudges

At regular intervals the ball gets a nudge, and now and then the friction of the bar changes. The first jolts are gentle; as the seconds pass they become stronger and more frequent. The key is not to react late: as soon as the ball drifts from the center, tilt a little and come back.

Common mistakes

  • Tilting too far and sending the ball to the opposite side: sudden changes are paid for with bounces.
  • Standing still when the ball is already drifting: the correction comes late and costs twice as much.
  • Watching the bar instead of the ball: the ball’s position tells you when to correct.
  • Correcting at the last moment: near the edge there is almost no margin.

Your best score

Every game starts from zero and ends when the ball falls. Your best score and your last seven games are saved in your browser, so you can come back whenever you like and try to beat them.
