How to play
- You are a scarf-wearing explorer fox: run, jump and reach the lantern at the end of each level.
- Jump on beetles and bumblebees to defeat them. Hedgehogs are spiky when curled up: wait until they uncurl.
- Hit crystal blocks from below: some hold coins, others a berry (makes you bigger and lets you smash blocks) or a feather (gives you a double jump).
- Beacons save your progress halfway through the level. Every 100 coins earns a life.
- Clearing a level unlocks the next one. Your records for each level are saved in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play Jumping Fox?
You run and jump through a side-scrolling level until you reach the lantern at the end. Along the way you stomp enemies, collect coins and hit crystal blocks from below. You have three lives: falling into a gap, touching thorns or running into an enemy with no protection costs you one.
What do the berry and the feather do?
The berry makes you bigger and tougher: you can take one hit, and you can smash ordinary crystal blocks from below. The feather lets you double jump in midair. Every hit you take removes the berry first and then the feather, and once both are gone the next hit costs a life.
Which enemies are there and how do you beat them?
Beetles walk back and forth and you defeat them by jumping on top. Bumblebees fly in a lazy sway and can be stomped too. Hedgehogs alternate between walking and curling into a spiky ball: you can only stomp them while they walk, and they shake before they curl up. Chaining stomps without touching the ground multiplies your points.
How do lives and checkpoints work?
You start with three lives and earn another for every 100 coins. The beacons halfway through a level light up when you walk past them: if you lose a life, you restart at the last lit one with the time you had left. If you run out of lives, the game ends and you can retry the level.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. On touch screens, left and right buttons, a “Run” switch (tap it once to turn it on and again to turn it off, so you do not have to hold it down) and a big jump button appear on their own, and you can press several at once. If you want them on a computer, turn on “On-screen controls”. The game pauses by itself if you switch tabs.
Are my unlocked levels and records saved?
Yes, only in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. Each level you clear unlocks the next one, and your best score and each level’s record are saved. If you clear the site data, they are cleared too. Add ?seed= to the address to replay the same game.
Game rules
- Every level is a left-to-right course with gaps, platforms, blocks and enemies. To clear it you have to touch the lantern at the end before time runs out.
- There are six worlds: a meadow, a forest, a dimly lit crystal grotto, snowy peaks, dunes at sunset and a castle of clouds. Each one adds something new: bumblebees, hedgehogs, slippery ice, spring flowers or long jumps.
- Crystal blocks are hit from below. The golden ones hold coins, a berry or a feather; the blue ones break only when you are big.
- Thin platforms can be passed through from below and stood on from above, and spring flowers launch you very high.
Scoring
Each coin is worth 50 points and chained stomps are worth 100, 200, 400 and so on up to 1,600. Reaching the lantern adds 500 points plus 10 for every second you have left. Every 100 coins earns a life, up to a maximum of nine.
Controls
Arrow keys or A and D to move, Space, W or the up arrow to jump, and Shift to run. P or Esc pauses the game. On a phone, use the on-screen buttons: left, right, a “Run” switch that turns on with one tap and off with another, and a big jump. The game follows your reduced motion preference: no shaking, no animated background and fewer particles.
Tips
- Hold the jump button to go higher and release it early for short, precise hops.
- You can still jump a moment after stepping off the edge of a platform, and if you press jump just before landing, it fires as soon as you touch down.
- Run to cross the widest gaps, but slow down before thorns.
- Save the berry for stretches with enemies: it forgives one hit.
- In the grotto, follow the light of the crystals to see where the path goes.
