    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discounted price?

Multiply the price by (1 − percentage ÷ 100). 20% off 1,500 gives 1,500 × 0.8 = 1,200. Enter the price and 20 and the result shows up on its own.

How do I know how much I saved?

The discount is the price times the percentage divided by 100. On 1,500 with 20% off, you save 300. The tool shows the amount taken off next to the result.

Do two discounts in a row add up?

No. 20% and then 10% equal 28%, not 30%, because the second one applies to the price that already dropped. For that, use the “Successive” mode.

    How a discount is calculated

A discount of X% leaves the price at value × (1 − X ÷ 100). On 1,500 with 20% off, it comes to 1,200 and you save 300. The reduction is calculated on the original price, not on the already reduced one.

    Common mistakes

If you go up and down by the same percentage you do not get back to the start: 100 with a 20% increase reaches 120, and a 20% discount leaves it at 96. Two discounts in a row do not add up either. For several percentages in a row, use the “Successive” mode of the percentage calculator.
