Screen recorder

Record your whole screen, a window, or a tab, with your voice, your computer’s sound, and your webcam if you like. Trim the result and download it.

What to record

Sound

Speak normally: the bar should move without hitting the top.

Sound from the tab or the computer. Chrome and Edge only; turn on “Share audio” when you choose what to share.

Video

The higher the quality, the larger the file.

Your browser will ask what to share. The recording never leaves your device.

Step by step

How to use it

  1. Choose what to record: the screen, the screen with your webcam in a bubble, or just the webcam. Turn on the microphone or system audio if you need them.
  2. Select “Start recording.” Your browser will ask you to pick the screen, window, or tab, and then a 3-second countdown begins.
  3. When you’re done, come back to this tab and select “Stop,” or use your browser’s “Stop sharing” button. You can pause as many times as you like.
  4. Review the result, trim the start and the end if needed, and download the video. You can also save a single frame as a PNG image.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded to a server?

No. The recording is made and processed inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent over the internet. While you record, a temporary backup is kept in your browser so you can recover it if the tab closes by mistake.

Can I record system audio, such as the sound of a video or a meeting?

Yes, in Chrome and Edge. When you choose what to share, turn on “Share audio” in the browser’s picker. On Windows it works with the full screen and with tabs; on macOS and Linux, only with tabs. Firefox and Safari can’t capture system audio, but they can capture your microphone.

Why can’t I record the screen from my phone?

Phone and tablet browsers don’t let a web page record the screen. If you’re on one, this tool lets you record with the webcam and microphone. To record your phone’s screen, use the feature that is already built into your system.

How long can I record, and is there a watermark?

There is no watermark and no fixed time limit. The real limit is your computer’s memory: one hour of screen at standard quality can take up to 3 GB. For long recordings, choose light quality and close other heavy tabs.

What format is the video saved in?

WebM by default, which plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, VLC, and most editors. If your browser can create MP4, that option appears, and it is ideal for sharing on any device. You can also run the result through Compress video or Video cutter.

Does the recording keep going if I switch windows or minimize the browser?

Yes. You can go to the app you want to show and come back here when you finish. If you record the screen with the webcam, leave this tab open in the background and don’t close it: the webcam bubble is composed inside it.

What recording your screen is good for

A screen video explains in a minute what a text takes a whole page to describe: a tutorial for a teammate, the step-by-step of a bug for tech support, a demo of your project, or a clip from an online class. With your webcam in a bubble, the message feels more personal, too.

Tips for a good recording

  • Close what you don’t want to show. Notifications, chats, and tabs with personal data appear if you share the whole screen; sharing a single window or tab avoids surprises.
  • Test the microphone first. The level meter shows whether your voice is coming through. A headset sounds better than a laptop’s built-in microphone.
  • Use 30 frames per second. It’s enough for tutorials; go up to 60 only if you record games or animations.
  • Trim at the end. Cut the seconds at the start and the end with the trimming tool on this same page.

After recording

If the video is large, run it through Compress video. If you only need a moment of it, turn it into a GIF with Video to GIF, or extract the audio to keep it as a podcast or a voice note.
