Sort lines
Paste your list and sort it instantly: from A to Z, from low to high, by length, by column, or at random. The result changes as you pick each mode.

You can also drag a .txt, .csv, or .docx file onto the box. It is not uploaded to any server.
Options
How to use it
- Paste your list in the box, one item per line. You can also open a .txt or .csv file.
- Pick the mode: A to Z, natural, numeric, by length, by column, random, or reverse.
- Adjust the options: case, accents, blank lines, duplicates, numbering, and grouping by first letter.
- Copy the result or download it as a .txt. To keep working on it, send it back to the input box.
Frequently asked questions
How are uppercase letters and accents handled?
By default the sort ignores case and accents, so “apple” and “Apple” sit together, and “naïve” lands next to “naive.” Turn those options off if you want them to count: then lowercase comes before uppercase, and plain letters come before accented ones.
What is natural order?
It recognizes the numbers inside the text: “item2” goes before “item10.” A plain alphabetical sort would put them the other way around because it compares character by character.
How are numbers with thousands separators sorted?
In numeric mode the first number on each line is used. With a decimal point, “1,234.5” is one thousand two hundred thirty-four and a half. If your data uses a decimal comma, such as “1.234,5”, change the option. Lines without a number go to the end.
Can I sort a table by one column?
Yes. In “By column” mode, choose the separator (comma, semicolon, tab, space, or vertical bar) and the column number. You can treat the column as a number, for example to sort by price.
Is the random order really random?
Yes. It uses the browser’s random number generator with the Fisher-Yates algorithm, without bias. Every time you press “Shuffle again” you get a different order.
Is my list sent to a server?
No. Everything is sorted in your browser and your list never leaves your device.
Why a plain sort gets the order wrong
Many tools sort by character code, which puts every uppercase letter before every lowercase one and sends accented letters to the end. Here the browser’s language-aware collation is used, so “Apple, banana, Cherry, naïve, zebra” comes out in the order you expect.
When to use each mode
- A to Z / Z to A: names, words, glossaries.
- Natural: files and codes with numbers, like photo2 and photo10.
- Numeric: prices, quantities, and scores.
- By length: find the longest or shortest line.
- By column: data separated by commas or tabs.
- Random: drawings, assigning turns, shuffling questions.
