Frequently asked questions
What is 72 DPI good for?
For screens: it is the classic monitor resolution. The images look fine at screen size and weigh much less, which is ideal for emails, thumbnails, and previews.
Can I read the text?
In most documents, yes, because the text in the PDF is drawn crisply. With very small print or blueprints it can be a tight fit; if you need the result for printing, use 300 DPI.
Can I make the files even smaller?
Yes. Lower the JPG quality or choose 96 or 72 DPI depending on the page. You can also convert only a few pages instead of all of them.
Small images from a PDF
When the goal is to share a preview or publish each page on a website, you do not need print resolution. At 72 DPI the images look fine on a screen and weigh a fraction of what they would at 300 DPI.
When to choose this option
Use it for thumbnails, emails, documents read on a phone, or whenever file size matters more than detail. For printing or enlarging, use the high-quality version. To start over, go to PDF to JPG.
