FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The whole process happens in your browser. The PDF and the resulting images never leave your device.

How do I get a PNG with a transparent background?

Under “Background,” choose “Transparent.” Empty areas become transparent; text and drawings keep their smooth edges. It is useful for logos, blueprints, and signatures. If the PDF has a painted background, that background stays.

Why are PNG files so big?

PNG stores every pixel without loss, so a page at 300 DPI can go over 5 MB. Lower the resolution to 150 DPI or use JPG or WebP if you do not need transparency. We flag very heavy images with a label.

Can I pick another format besides PNG?

Yes. Under “Output format” you can switch to JPG or WebP. WebP is usually smaller than PNG and supports transparency, although not every program opens it.

How many pages can I convert?

There is no fixed limit on pages or conversions. Each page is drawn one at a time to protect memory, so a very long PDF takes longer. You can cancel at any time.

When PNG is better than JPG

PNG keeps the edges of text and lines free of artifacts and supports transparency. It is the best choice for diagrams, blueprints, screenshots of documents, logos, and any page with small print that you want to look perfect when you zoom in.

Transparent or white

With a white background the image looks the same as the paper. With a transparent background you can place it over another color or inside a presentation without a white box showing up. If the PDF already has a background color, it is kept.

  • 72 to 150 DPI: screens and the web.
  • 200 to 300 DPI: printing and fine detail.

A practical case: pulling out a logo with a transparent background

It is common to have a brand manual as a PDF and need just the logo on its own. Select the page with the logo, choose “Transparent” as the background and 300 DPI, and convert. The resulting PNG can go over any color or inside a presentation without the white box of the paper. If the logo is a vector, enlarge it with a high resolution so the curves look clean; if you would rather keep editing it, also export it to SVG from the original program.

For several pages, download the full ZIP and keep only the ones you use. And if the page has a photo or a lot of color and you do not need transparency, JPG output creates much smaller files.
