Move the paddle with the mouse or by dragging a finger, or with the arrow keys and A and D. Space or a tap launches the ball and fires. P pauses.

How to play
  • Move the paddle so the ball bounces and breaks the bricks. If it falls past the bottom, you lose a life.
  • Depending on where it hits the paddle, the ball goes straight up or off at an angle. It gets a little faster with every hit, up to a cap.
  • Dark stone bricks never break: you do not need to clear them to move on to the next wall.
  • Wing widens the paddle, Trio adds two balls, Breeze slows the ball, and Bolt lets you shoot.

How to use it

  1. Press Space, tap the play area, or select Start. The ball waits stuck to the paddle.
  2. Move the paddle with the mouse or by dragging a finger across the play area; with the keyboard, use the arrow keys or A and D.
  3. Launch the ball with Space or a tap. Hit it with the center of the paddle to send it straight up, and with the ends to send it off at an angle.
  4. Break every brick to move on to the next wall. Catch the capsules that fall to widen the paddle, split the ball, slow it down, or fire bolts.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Brick Wall?

You move a paddle along the bottom so the ball bounces up and breaks the bricks in the wall. When there are no breakable bricks left, you move on to the next wall. If the ball falls past the bottom, you lose one of your three lives.

How do I control where the ball goes?

It depends on where the ball hits the paddle. The center sends it nearly straight up; the closer to an end, the more it tilts that way. That lets you aim at a gap in the wall instead of waiting for a lucky bounce.

What do the falling power-ups do?

There are four. Wing widens the paddle, Trio adds two more balls, Breeze slows the ball down, and Bolt lets you shoot with Space. Wing, Breeze, and Bolt last a few seconds; Trio is instant. Catching the same one again renews its timer.

Why do some bricks not break in one hit?

There are bricks that take one, two, or three hits, and you can see a bigger crack each time you hit them. In later walls you will also find dark stone bricks that never break: they are part of the scenery and you do not need to clear them to finish a level.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Drag a finger across the play area and the paddle follows. To launch the ball or fire, tap the play area or the large button below, which is more than 44 pixels tall. The game pauses by itself if you switch apps.

How do I get extra lives, and where is my record saved?

You earn an extra life every 5,000 points, up to a maximum of five. Your best score is saved only in your browser and is never sent to a server; if you clear the site data, it disappears.

Game rules

  • You start with three lives. The ball waits stuck to the paddle until you launch it.
  • The ball bounces off the walls and the ceiling. If it drops below the paddle, you lose a life and serve again.
  • Some bricks take one, two, or three hits. A crack shows up and grows with every impact.
  • From the middle walls on, dark stone bricks appear that cannot be destroyed: the ball bounces off them, but they do not count toward finishing the level.
  • There are ten walls with different layouts. After the last one, the cycle starts over with a faster ball.

How scoring works

A hit that does not break the brick scores 5 points. Breaking it scores 10, 20, or 30, depending on how many hits it took. Catching a power-up gives 25, and clearing a wall gives a bonus that grows with the level and with the lives you have left. Every 5,000 points you earn an extra life, up to a maximum of five.

The power-ups

  • Wing (wide capsule): widens the paddle for about twelve seconds.
  • Trio (three dots): splits the ball into three. As long as one is left, you are still in play.
  • Breeze (wave): slows the ball for ten seconds.
  • Bolt (lightning): with Space or a tap you fire two bolts from the paddle that damage the bricks.

Strategy tips

  • Steer the ball: hit with the end of the paddle to reach the corners of the wall and open a tunnel to the top.
  • The ball speeds up a little with every hit, up to a cap. If the pace overwhelms you, do not follow the ball with your eyes: look at where it will land and get there early.
  • Once a tunnel is open on one side, the ball bounces around behind the wall and breaks bricks with no effort from you.
  • Bricks that drop power-ups cannot be told apart at a glance: aim at the area with the most gaps and let the capsules come to you.
  • With Breeze active, take the time to set up under the ends and try tighter angles.

Controls

Mouse or finger: the paddle follows the pointer inside the play area. Keyboard: left and right arrow keys, or A and D, to move it; Space to launch the ball and fire; P or Esc to pause. On touch screens, a large button appears to launch and fire, and another to pause. The game pauses on its own if you switch tabs.
