Days between dates, including the end date

The “Include the end date” option is already on: pick the two dates and the last day is counted too.

Left unchecked, January 1 to January 3 is 2 days (like subtracting dates). Checked, the 3rd counts too, so it is 3 days.

Dates are counted as calendar days, with no daylight saving time or time zones, so the result does not change depending on where you are.

Step by step

How to use it

  1. Type the start date and the end date as mm/dd/yyyy, or pick them from the calendar. The Today button fills in the current date.
  2. Decide whether to include the end date. Left unchecked, days are counted the way a date subtraction does it.
  3. Read the total number of days and the breakdown in years, months, weeks, hours, and minutes. If the end date is in the future, you see how many days are left.
  4. Copy the result, or copy the link to share the same dates with someone else.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What changes when the end date is included?

Without the option, January 1 to January 3 is 2 days, because the dates are subtracted. Including the end date also counts the 3rd, so it is 3 days, which is how a stay or a deadline is usually counted.

When should I use it?

For hotel stays you count as full days, for deadlines that include the due date, or for vacations counted from the first day to the last.

Does it work with times?

The option turns off if you add start and end times, because then the difference is measured in exact hours and minutes.

Counting the first and the last day

Subtracting two dates gives the difference between them, but often you want to know how many days a period covers, counting both the start day and the closing day. With “Include the end date” on, January 1 to January 3 is 3 days, not 2.

Useful examples

It works for the length of a trip, the days of a stay, a delivery window, or a leave. Enter the two dates and the result and the breakdown update on their own. For the difference without counting the last day, go back to the days between dates calculator.
