Countdown clock
Pick a popular date or create your own event and watch the days, hours, minutes, and seconds tick down live. You can save it, show it full screen, and share the link.
The event time is read in this zone. “Your time zone” uses this device’s clock.
Pick the date of your event
Enter a date (and a time if you have one) to start the countdown. You can save it to come back to it.

In numbers
Days are calendar days: today does not count and the day of the event does.
Coming up
My events
You have not saved any yet. In “My event” you can create a countdown and save it: it stays on this device only.
My live countdowns
Your saved countdowns, all ticking at once. Select one to see it large.
How it counts
We use the date and time of your device, or the time zone you choose under “Time zone”, so you can count down to an event in another country. If you change the zone, the countdown adjusts by itself. Events you save stay in this browser and are not sent anywhere. How to use it
- Pick a date from the list (Christmas, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, July 4th, and more) or switch to “My event”.
- In “My event”, type a name, a date, and optionally a time. Turn on “Repeat every year” for birthdays and anniversaries.
- Read the calendar days left, the exact time ticking live, and how many of those days fall Monday through Friday.
- Save the event to find it again, select “Full screen” to show it on a screen, or select “Copy link” to share the same countdown.
- Under “My live countdowns” you see every saved event ticking at once. “Embed on a site” copies a code to paste the countdown into another page, and you can turn on a sound for when it reaches zero.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until Christmas?
Choose “Christmas” in the list and the clock tells you right away, counting from today to December 25. If it already passed this year, it counts to the next one. Days are calendar days: today does not count, and Christmas Day does.
Why does the big number not match the days on the clock?
The big number counts calendar days: from December 1 to December 25 is 24 days, even if it is already afternoon. The clock shows the exact time until 12:00 AM on the day of the event, so it can show one day less plus the hours left to complete the next one.
Can I count down to a birthday or an anniversary?
Yes. In “My event”, enter the date and turn on “Repeat every year”. When the date passes, the countdown jumps to the next one by itself. If the birthday is on February 29, the countdown aims for February 28 in years that are not leap years.
How do I share a countdown with someone?
Select “Copy link”. The address includes the name, date, and time, so whoever opens it sees the same countdown without installing anything. That information only travels in the link you send: it does not pass through any server of ours.
Which time zone does the countdown use?
By default it uses your device clock. If the event happens somewhere else, such as a game, a premiere, or a flight announced in local time, pick that city in “Time zone” and the countdown follows that clock instead.
Does it alert me when the countdown ends?
If you turn on “Play a sound when this countdown reaches zero”, the page plays a short tone when the event time arrives, as long as the page is open. Your browser generates the sound, so it must not be muted. It is not an alarm that rings with the tab closed.
How the days are counted
The countdown uses calendar days: it subtracts today's date from the date of the event. From December 1 to December 25 there are 24 days, and the day of the event counts as arrived. Below the big number, the clock shows the exact time until 12:00 AM on the chosen day, or until the time you set in your own event.
Dates that change every year
- Mother's Day: second Sunday of May.
- Memorial Day: last Monday of May.
- Father's Day: third Sunday of June.
- Labor Day: first Monday of September.
- Thanksgiving: fourth Thursday of November.
- Black Friday and Cyber Monday: the Friday and the Monday after Thanksgiving.
- Easter, Good Friday, and Mardi Gras: they depend on the date of Easter, which follows the Gregorian calendar.
Federal holidays and the first day of each season
Fixed-date federal holidays such as July 4th and Christmas are shown on the day they fall. When one lands on a weekend, the day off is usually observed on the nearest Friday or Monday, and the countdown notes it. The first day of spring, summer, fall, and winter follows the equinoxes and solstices, so it can be a day earlier or later from one year to the next. The date shown is for U.S. Eastern Time.
Counting down in another time zone
If the event happens in another city, choose its time zone in “Time zone”: the countdown uses that clock and not the one on your device. It is handy for a game, a premiere, or a flight announced in the local time of the destination.
Several countdowns and a sound alert
You can save up to twelve countdowns and watch them all together under “My live countdowns”, each one ticking in real time. To be alerted when one ends, turn on the sound: the page plays a short tone when the selected countdown reaches zero, as long as it is open. Your browser makes the tone; it is not a notification with the tab closed.
Embed the countdown on a site
“Embed on a site” copies an iframe code that points to this countdown, with the event and the time zone already in the address. Paste it into a website, a blog, or an intranet page to show the countdown without installing anything. The iframe loads only this static page and sends none of your data.
What it is good for
- Knowing how long is left before a trip, an exam, a move, or a baby's due date.
- Showing the countdown on a screen during a party, a class, or a launch.
- Planning with workdays: the breakdown says how many of the days left fall Monday through Friday, without subtracting holidays.
Keep planning
Pair it with the days between dates calculator, the add days to a date tool, and the age calculator. If you need a plain timer for minutes and hours, use the online timer.
