Frequently asked questions
What is a 1920x1080 image used for?
It is the Full HD resolution: the wallpaper size for most monitors and the standard for presentations and video. An image at that size looks sharp without taking up more space than needed.
What if my photo is vertical?
The “Fill” fit crops it to cover the widescreen frame. If you would rather see it whole with bars, switch to “Fit” and choose the bar color.
Can I enlarge a small image to Full HD?
You can, but when you enlarge an image it can look softer: details that do not exist cannot be invented. If you can, start from a larger original.
How to make an image Full HD
1920x1080 is the Full HD format, in landscape orientation. It works for desktop wallpapers, slides, and video thumbnails. This page loads that size so you do not have to type it.
Watch the aspect ratio
If the photo is not landscape, “Fill” crops it to the center to cover the frame, and “Fit” shows it whole with bars in the color you choose. When you shrink a phone photo, quality holds up very well. For a square, use resize to 1080x1080, or go back to the resize image tool.
