How to use it
- Drop one or more PDFs into the box, or choose them from your device.
- Choose the compression level: Low keeps almost all the detail, Recommended balances size and quality, and Extreme shrinks as much as it can. If you need a specific size, turn on “Fit to a size” and type the MB.
- Select “Compress PDF.” You will see how much each file weighed and how much it weighs now, with a before and after preview.
- Download the result. If you compressed several files, you can download them all together in a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Why is 1 MB such a common limit?
Many portals and systems set 1 MB as the maximum per file. It is a generous cap that is almost always reachable by slightly reducing the quality or resolution of the images.
Is the text still selectable?
Yes. With the usual levels the text stays selectable and searchable. Only the “Maximum” level turns it into an image.
Can I compress a PDF that is already compressed?
You can try, but if it is already optimized it will probably not shrink further and we will say so. In that case we never hand you a heavier file.
The 1 MB cap on portals
It is one of the most requested limits when uploading documents and scans: 1 MB, which is 1024 KB. This page has it selected so you do not have to set it up. The tool adjusts the quality and, only if needed, the resolution of the images.
Before you download
The result shows how much the file weighed and how much it weighs now, and you can check the first page with a before and after view. If you need a smaller size, try compress to 500 KB or go back to the compress PDF tool.
