Frequently asked questions
Is WebP smaller than JPG?
Generally, yes: at similar visual quality, WebP takes up noticeably less space. That speeds up a website and saves storage. The difference is most visible in photos with lots of detail.
Can any browser open it?
Current browsers display it without trouble, and modern apps open it too. Very old programs may not support it: in that case, keep the original JPG.
Can I adjust the quality?
Yes. The quality control lets you balance file size and fidelity. A quality of 75 to 85 is usually invisible to the naked eye and cuts the size considerably.
JPG and WebP for photos
JPG is the most compatible format, but WebP reaches a smaller size at similar quality. If you publish photos on a website or send them by email, going from JPG to WebP speeds up loading and takes less space. The difference is bigger for images with a lot of detail.
How to do it
The output format is already WebP. Drop in your JPG files, choose the quality, and download them one by one or all together in a ZIP. If an image has transparent areas, they are kept. For logos or screenshots, it is better to convert PNG to WebP; to see every combination, open the image converter.
